Treatment

Trichomoniasis, or trich, is curable with a single dose of oral antibiotics, typically metronidazole or tinidazole. These medications are safe for pregnant women to take. It is not recommended to drink alcohol within 24 hours of taking either medication.

About one in five people treated for trich will be infected again within three months. To avoid reinfection, all sex partners of the infected person should also be treated for trichomoniasis. It's also important to wait seven to 10 days after treatment to have sex again.
